Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about booking DJ Stefan for your wedding, party, or event in Gippsland.

Booking & Availability

How far in advance should I book?

We recommend booking at least 6–12 months in advance for weddings, and 1–3 months for parties and events to secure your preferred date. Popular dates — particularly Saturdays in spring and summer — fill quickly.

Will you personally be the DJ at my wedding?

Yes. When you book DJ Stefan, you get Stefan. I never subcontract or send a replacement DJ. From first enquiry to the last song, you deal directly with the same person on the decks.

Do you provide a written contract?

Yes, always. Every booking includes a formal contract covering event details, package inclusions, payment terms, and cancellation policy. A deposit secures your date and nothing is confirmed without a signed agreement.

How much does DJ Stefan charge for a wedding?

Wedding packages start from $1,100. The price depends on event duration, travel, and any add-ons. Contact us for a personalised quote — or use the AI Quote Builder on the homepage for an instant estimate.

Public liability insurance: DJ Stefan carries $20 million PLI — a Certificate of Currency is available on request and can be sent directly to your venue coordinator. Most major Gippsland venues require a minimum of $10–20M PLI before confirming your booking. Read more: Why Hiring a Professional DJ Matters →

Does DJ Stefan bring his own equipment?

Yes. DJ Stefan provides full professional-grade audio and lighting equipment for every event, including backup gear. You don't need to source anything separately. See the full equipment list →

What is a Video DJ?

A Video DJ (VJ) mixes HD music videos in real-time alongside the audio, projecting them onto a large screen with synchronised lyric overlays. DJ Stefan now brings this premium experience to Gippsland — it's a next-level upgrade for receptions and parties.

What is Musical Bingo?

Musical Bingo is a fun twist on traditional bingo where players match song clips instead of numbers. It's a great ice-breaker or entertainment add-on for any event — bookable as a standalone activity or alongside a DJ set from $250.

Can you provide sound for the wedding ceremony?

For the ceremony I recommend couples use their celebrant's own PA system — most professional celebrants carry quality gear specifically designed for ceremonies. I focus on delivering the best possible reception experience, so coordinating with your celebrant on ceremony audio is the approach I always suggest.

Music & Playlist

Can I request specific songs?

Absolutely. DJ Stefan works with you before your event to build a personalised playlist and takes requests on the night. When you book, you receive access to a private Client Portal where you can create Must Play and Do Not Play lists, manage your event run sheet, and communicate directly in the months leading up to your event.

How do you handle song requests from guests on the night?

Every request gets acknowledged but the dancefloor always comes first. I use a 'we'll see' approach — playing what works for the room and sidestepping anything that would kill the energy. Your Must Play and Do Not Play lists always take priority.

Can you read the room and change the music if it isn't working?

Yes. If the dancefloor empties I pivot immediately — no announcements, no awkward pauses. I watch the crowd constantly and adjust in real-time. That's the difference between playing music and reading a room.

What do you do if nobody gets up to dance?

Honest answer: it happens at every wedding, usually right after dinner. The trick is knowing what to play in that moment — not going harder or louder, but finding the one song that gets the right person up first. One person on the floor becomes five, five becomes twenty. I've never had a dancefloor that didn't come alive eventually. The key is patience and knowing your crowd — by that point in the night I've been watching your guests for hours and I know exactly who the movers are. Preparation & Planning

Do you visit the venue before the wedding?

Where possible, yes — but I want to be honest about what that means in practice. If I’ve already played at your venue, a pre-visit isn’t necessary because I already know the room, the power layout, the acoustics, and how the space flows. Most major Gippsland venues I’ve played multiple times.

For venues I haven’t played before, I’ll visit if the timing works around my other commitments and the distance is reasonable. I’m based in Warragul, so a quick site check at a Drouin or Traralgon venue before a busy week is easy enough. A two-hour round trip to a remote property is a different conversation — I’ll always be upfront about whether a visit is practical rather than just saying yes to tick a box.

What I do for every booking regardless: I research the venue thoroughly, speak with the coordinator directly, and confirm power access, load-in logistics, room dimensions, and any acoustic quirks well before the day. The goal is that nothing about your venue surprises me on your wedding day. Read more: How Gippsland Venues Shape the Night →

How much do you prepare for each event?

More than most people realise. Every booking includes a pre-event consultation, Client Portal access to build your playlist and run sheet, direct coordination with your venue and celebrant where needed, and a full equipment check the day before. I arrive 90 minutes early, set up properly, and sound-check before your first guest walks in.
